Expertise, innovation and foresight: these are the three principles that inspired the Goethe-Institut Rom to found its own non-profit company under Italian law, launched in November 2020: the Goethe-Institut Innovation Lab - impresa sociale s.r.l. and abbreviated to GINNLab.

The company, being wholly owned by the Goethe-Institut, was created with the aim of ensuring that the task of coordinating StartNet - Network for transition education to work taken on by the cultural institute could be continued in the years to come.

On one hand, the social enterprise shall be in charge of implementing StartNet's activities in Italy. This includes managing funding, organising the network's activities, providing technical and organisational support for projects, acquiring new partners and sponsors as well as further developing new project ideas for the network.

On the other hand, as a recognised company under Italian law belonging to the third Sector, GINNLab will be able to participate in public and private tenders not only in Italy, but all over Europe, acquiring new projects which, as laid out in its statute, “will be particularly dedicated to promoting cultural dialogue, social and labour initiatives with a focus on strengthening Italian-German relations in the context of a peaceful, free Europe and friendly exchange with its neighbours".
